Is Your Home Page Too Basic?

Updated: Oct 14

Basic = Unoriginal

Ever land on a website and think, “What exactly does this company do?” Or maybe you assumed it was one type of business, only to find out it’s something entirely different. A basic home page can leave your visitors confused and disengaged.

Online web design

Grab Attention Without Overwhelming

Your home page should instantly inform visitors where they are and what you offer. Use compelling images or videos that draw them in without causing information overload. Ensure your logo and tagline are visible and clear. What’s your primary goal? Do you want visitors to book a consultation? Sign up for a newsletter? Make it clear with a strong Call-to-Action (CTA) that directs them to take the next step.

What’s Your Website’s Purpose?

Define the purpose of your website. Whether it's a web design, highlighting your non-profit organization, or showcasing your small business website, make sure the CTA is clear and enticing. Highlight the benefits of choosing your services over others. Why should visitors stay engaged with your site? What sets you apart from the competition? If you can’t convince yourself of your unique value, you certainly won’t convince your potential clients.

Ensure Easy Navigation

Make navigation intuitive. Your site should have at least three essential pages: Home, Services/Products, and Contact. An About page is a great addition, but keep it distinct from your products/services page to avoid confusion. Simple, straightforward navigation helps retain visitors and keeps potential revenue within reach.

Avoid Clutter

A cluttered home page can drive visitors away. Embrace white space to make your content more digestible. Too much text or excessive images can overwhelm and deter readers. Remember, people tend to skim online content, so keep it concise and engaging.

Optimize Readability

Ensure your text is easily readable with a minimum font size of 16px. Avoid overly decorative fonts for body text; reserve those for headers. Clear, legible text helps keep visitors engaged and improves their overall user experience.
